COUNTERS

- what are counters?
in digital logic and computing, a counter is a device which stores (and sometimes displays) the number of times a particular event or process has occurred, often in a relationship to a clock signal.

- why would you use them?
counters may be used to store (and sometimes display) the number of times a particular event or process has occurred, such as how many times your particular website or page has been viewed.

- what are some other web analysis tools?
google analytics, clicktracks, webtrends, websidestory HBX analytics, Omnitures SiteCatalyst.

RSS

- What is RSS?
RSS (Rich Site Summary) is a format for delivering regularly changing web content. Many news-related sites, weblogs and other online publishers syndicate their content as an RSS Feed to whoever wants it.

- What is it used for?
RSS is used to solve a problem for people who regularly use the web. It allows you to easily stay informed by retrieving the latest content from the sites you are interested in. You save time by not needing to visit each site individually. You ensure your privacy, by not needing to join each site's email newsletter.

- How does Google reader work?
Google reader works by reading Atom and RSS feeds online or offline, so it can update your subscriptions even when your not online.
